Heterosexual Man Hugs.
Now I'm not sure about this, its something I don't know if I'm for. Is a hand shake not enough. Yes its a bit stiffish a bit too formal in friendly situations. We can use both hands can't we as well, we can use the left hand to pat the others shoulder as we shake, or use both hands around the others right hand if they're mates, yes and we sometimes feign a punch to the chin in friendship.
Where have these man hugs come from? I made a right cock up of it when a relatives young friend lunged forward deep into my English body space pulling my hand up to his chest to shoulder me a hug, where do they practise this manoeuvre, and what is it saying.
I don't think I'm for them, there just not British.
I fear this may say more about me than I realise.
Have Man Hugs changed things for the better or will they?

I have to agree with you on the man hugs. There may be exceptional circumstances such as greeting someone who has saved your life, or an old pal you havn't seen since he ran off with your wife thirty years before and you want to thank him or even a Brother you havn't seen for years. But for an Englishman there can be nothing finer than a good firm (not squashing) Hand Shake. A sloppy one is just for effeminates (women etc). A good firm handshake from a man especially on first meeting can leave a lasting impression. SB

I think man hugs are fine between family, but being hugged by an acquaintance really embarrasses me. I went to a wedding a couple of years back, we were invited by the father of the bride. He was related to my wife and I doubt I had said more than half a dozen words to previous to this wedding.

When we rolled up at the venue of the wedding he greeted me with a tight hug. I had never felt so embarrassed in all my life. There I was standing on the lawn of this posh wedding venue being hugged by a man I hardly knew. Now if it had been his wife that would have been different.

Man Hugs Lads,
I mentioned it to my sister today, how I felt about them, she said "don't be a wuzz" and then asked about the cats.
They just don't understand.

I am writing this in desperation. At this moment dancing on ice is on the telly. If I took the trouble to say what I think about it, I would be banned from this forum. I would rather have the Simpsons on and I hate that Cheap Garbage like poison. SB

I agree SB, I think the Telly may be doing us an injury, maybe we have reached Telly overload.

I think it's a great shame, when the technical quality of television with the digital age etc has never been better. I cannot believe the sorry state of the content of television. It really is rubbish. SB

SB

Do you really think that this digital TV is better. I'm on cable (Virgin) and I am sick of the amount of times it goes down. You can bet on average at least once a week I hear a sudden scream as if the wife is being murdered ( I should be so lucky) the television has gone blank in the middle of Eastenders or Coronation St.

I have to reboot the box or if it is something worse rig it so she can watch the 5 basic channels until it comes back on. Try asking Virgin for a refund what a laugh its a worse service than their trains.
