I'd do it for half that, as I'm sure would a lot more Brummie Lads. I wonder if they want a few names, but none of that Euro rubbish thank you.

Which begs the question why are they all dutch? I suppose the wheel is Dutch, cant we make them in this country. No i suppose not after "that woman" closed down our industry.
John back years ago I wouldn't have been able to get my lads into those safety lines. When health and safety started to come in I had to threaten them with the sack and fines to make them toe the line it didn't do a lot of good until I explained just how much the company could be fined probably enough to put us out of business.

That's going to be rather a long fence SB.
Phil, the courts can't put a company into liqudation as the result of a fine.
So obviously safety needn't be well enforced at a firm that is going to the wall and won't be able to pay decent compensation or a large fine.
So much for laws to protect the workers.

No but a fine can be that large that it would make it difficult to continue to operate. I knew a couple of lads who started up the same time as us in the late 60's who got fined for overloading their truck. As they were a partnership they were fined a thousand pounds each. Then the one who was driving the truck was fined another £200 for the offence. It nearly finished them they had to go back to square one.

Volty the courts don't have to fine firms hard to close them down the HSE can use The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It is the only single act of Parliament that can immediately close a company down, all it takes is an inspector to issue a prohibition notice on certain jobs or machines and the firm can't operate.
