Talking about street lighting, does anybody know why all the street lighting is being changed. From what I can see there seems to be little difference except the new light stands are a little higher and I suppose the lamps are the new energy saving type. Why though could the existing ones not be converted instead of all the expense of replacing them?

Iam absolutly gobsmacked I've just ploughed through 1,602 postcards on e-bay and found this ,it shows what's left of our house in Cromwell Street, next to the Cromwell Arms.
Phil , I see from another forum you also are looking at this, let me tell you there are some quite rare photos, and lots of pubs I'd never seen before, with a lot from Yardley ,solihull, etc.
If you feel inclined to have a look, here's the link,SB , there's a rare book on the history of Sheldon.

John

If you go back and read the comments that I left you will see that I agree with you. I found some photos among that lot that I have been looking for, for a long time now. especially the Britt in Inkerman St. There is a lot to wade through and a lot of them are already all over the net, but some I had never seen before. Did you get the one of the gunmakers arms in Cromwell St?

Volty will know better than me Phil, our new street lighting is great It's almost like daylight. Ours are much brighter energy saving LED's I can only guess that they take less power and have to be on another power system. SB

John ,keep those car boot bargains rolling in.

Went to the allotment for a few hours and boy did it rain, not particularly cold though so carried on digging.Time is precious up there.
