I can never understand why they didn't go with the original idea of moving to Baskerville House. OK so the building wasn't big enough, so what was wrong with building an extension in a sympathetic classical style. All they are doing now is alienating the Hall of Memory and Baskerville House. They have already gotten rid of the Colonnade how long before the other two go because they do not fit in with new new buildings?

Phil

morning phil..another good point off you..

fog is lifting now...

Phil ,morning, it was said the floors were not strong enough to hold the weight of the books, surely they could have gutted the inside and built stronger floors and interior walls or is that not practical, would have been cheaper I'm sure.

John they wouldn't do that because of its historical significance

so SB going back to my idea that maybe using the old original library for the really old archives material and building a new one for the more up to date modern stuff would have been ok...any road up this is just me thinking outload again...

John

I haven't been in Baskerville House for a while now, but the last time I was in there I don't think there was much in the way of upper floors at all. As all the the upper rooms were around the perimeter of the building it was a bit like mezzanine flooring. I can't see that it would have been that great a job to install new load bearing flooring.

A PRAYER FOR THE STRESSED

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the thingsI cannot accept
and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill today because they got on my nerves
also help me to be careful of the toes I step on today as they may be connected to to the feet I have to kiss tomorrow.

Help me always to give 100% at work
12% on Monday
23% on Tuesday
40% on Wednesday
20% on Thursday
and 5% on Friday

Also help me to remember
When I am having a really bad day and it seems that people are trying to wind me up
It takes 42 Muscles to frown,
28 Muscles to smile
and only 4 muscles to extend my arm to smack someone in the mouth
