I always have a Skylight or UV filter attached just to protect the lens, I often forget it is there.
I bought a Jessops circular polariser but stopped using it because I got the impression it needed turning, after focussing, to get the correct effect.
When I hold it up to the light and rotate it there is no variation and I have just tried it on the camera again and it seems to be OK but it has a rotating mount which leads me to believe that there must be times when you should turn it independently of the lens. I will have to leave it on the lens for a while and see what happens.

Signman, I read in another thread that in November you will be coming up to photograph Birmingham in black & white.
Don't forget you won't need to adjust the colour settings on your camera.....Birmingham IS in B&W in November.

VM, turn the polariser round before you focus looking through the viewfinder until you get the effect you want, they work best at right angles to the sun, you adjust them each time you take a new shot.
I have seen sun in Brum in November, but I don't care ,more atmospheric.

Thanks Signman,
I thought it was circular so I didn't have to touch it, now I know that's how it's done I won't mind so much.

We are by the way still in August, we are in Black and White now, with some interesting Grey tones in the sky.

Yes, but September will be brill. Sunshine everyday, cloudy tropical storms every night, temperatures not dropping below 20° even at night.
Get your fans back out of the loft. You've been warned.
