Hi, I have only just been admitted to this site, it was fantastic for me to see the photograph of "The Vine" in Summer Lane, mainly because I lived next door for the first 6 years of my life and do not have a photo of our old house. We used to have the shop and house on the corner and there is my bedroom window on the first floor above the shop. Brilliant, has made my day.

By all means jump on the band wagon SB. You are only three years too late.

Back to the photo.
I notice that the shop and its neighbour, both behind the Co-operative van, have between them a bricked up second floor window, with frame still in place, whilst another window has a lintel that would hold up a bridge.
Any thoughts?

Volty
the building behind the van was the coop confectionary dept, but earlier (1921 ) it was the coop bakery. Could the lintel been to support onwe opf those little arms for a hoist to lift up the bags of flour?

That sounds a very likely explanation Mike.
Perhaps the house next door was part of the bakery but the windows weren't required.
