hi all...well i would bring back the good old english pub and it saddens me to see the massive decline we now have...during the war years it was a place where folk could go to comfort each other over the loss of loved ones and down the years a meeting place to talk about football..play darts and dominos and just basically have a good old chinwag...a place where us kids would be taken into the gardens by our parents and have a packet of crisps and a glass of lemonade..this community spirit has now all but gone and when i go into a pub now its full of strangers.....
i was born a stones throw from summer lane and there was as many pubs down there as shops so i thought it would be nice to post a pic of all pubs that were there....there are only 3 left standing now...the royal george which has been gutted and word is it is to be turned into yet another eating place...the barrell..gutted and no plans for that and then we have the stags head..the last surviving serving pub on the lane...the present landlord is leaving round about sept and im afraid that if no one takes it on it will close its doors and that will be the end of the pubs that were on the lane and the end of an era...
first i will post a map showing the exact position of each pub and the pics will follow...
