I am interested in the way you grow beans just up canes,do you just put the canes against the wall, close together I presume?

My first seeds in my tiny garden have germinated.Rocket,I love the leaves on salad sarnies.

My Radish seeds have germinated too.No carrots as yet.We need a drop of gentle overnight rain.

Denise, I used to make a frame of bamboo poles( similar to an indian wigwam without the covering.)
Or a line of poles like a tent open at both ends, (depending on how much space you have).
Plant seeds at bottom of each pole, and they will naturally wind their way up.

Hi all, thanks but I have grown them on wig wams and the traditional support pattern but I have never grown them up just what you describe as a row of poles,I was just looking for more detail on that one.Problem is SB I have my Cand G in Horticulture but they did not teach us a thing about growing veg so I have to read the books and learn from experience too LOL.

My dad grows them up against the 6ft fence at the side of the garden.
Bamboo canes, 6ft or so, planted 18" out from the bottom of the fence and angled and tied to the top rail of the fence, so just like half of Signmans tent.

I would think you could do the same thing against a wall with poles planted in growbags for a soil base.

Are tomatoes worth growing this year?
It was either last year or the year before that our entire crop went a bit black and mouldy, they wouldn't ripen and they had some terrible affliction.
I read somwhere that it was a widespread disease.
