SB
The reason for this, in the same way that other occupations have been corrupted, is the emerging of professional managers, an occupation invented to allow completely incompetant people, who are not capable of doing anything useful, to earn a living, usually earning far more than people actually doing something productive. To help them cover up their lack of knowledge they invent the "profession" of accountancy, whose main aim is covering up and fiddling things. I'm sure Al Capone would have been an excellent accountant on a par with the head of Barclays, RBS , Fairpak etc.
