I know someone who applied. He was young, fit, no record, had done whatever course /certificate you need to do security, was a trainer in the army cadets. He went for interview in Birmingham ( must be a yera ago), and got the impression that they MIGHT contact him later. Don't think he ever heard anything else

Four things hit me straight away.
First, whoever gave G4S the contract didn't have the first clue about how to invite tenders from serious contenders or how to determine if they are capable of fulfilling their side of the contract in time available.
Second, never trust anyone who thinks the word "basically" belongs in an explanation of anything.
Third, never deal with any company that feels the need to put a number in their trading name.
Fourth, when you agree a contract with someone, don't try to change it afterwards and don't accept changes to it.
Fifth, if this is the sort of thing our armed forces can do then why not give it to them in the first place?
Ok that was basically 5 things 4U 2 think about.
I hate unfinished sente

I thought this was the sort of thing that off duty police did, trouble being now we have got no police to be off duty.
As all london Police leave is cancelled, they havn't really got any Police off duty. Apart of course any why may be sick, injured, or suspended. Probably a few.

SB
What I meant was are not football matches policed by policemen who are supposed to be off duty and for this service the clubs have to pay a fee?
Not these days Phil, most of the Police at games are very much On duty and yes the clubs have to pay a fair amount of money. It used to be so much for an Inspector, so much for a Sergeant etc etc. Don't forget just talking football matches the likes of British Transport Police, Helicoptors and other units including Intelligence are brought into play.
