Metro today
Saisbury's are the first supermarket chain to be taken to court for exessive packaging.
Favourite gripe of mine this.
It takes up too much room.
It takes more transport.
It, harder to get home.
Abot time too! I hope they hit them all.

Yes and we're paying for it, are there any Kwiksave still where you could buy straight from cardboard boxes.
And while we're at it, how about ring pull cans, especially corned beef, I defy anyone to get the meat out in one piece, I'm no weakling I
usually pull the ring off, but some of these frail old folks must have a job and half to open them, I e-mailed Spam once on the same subject and
their answer - NOTHING.
Signman, the trick with the corned beef is to put your thumb where the picture on the lid indicates so as to exert the pulling force in the correct direction and pull slow and steady.
Then when the lid is off keep squashing the can, from diagonally opposite corners, until the beef loses it's grip on the can then shake until it drops out. Always refrigerate first
I much prefer this type of tin over the old key and strip sort, they were just plain dangerous and I always got bits of paper and steel in the beef.
Perhaps we should design a small machine or device that will hold a can and pull the ring for us.

I don't know why they have got to mess about with tins for. Today with electric tin openers it couldn't be simpler. Anyway if you have trouble with the tins, just don't buy them go the the cut meat counter and buy it sliced. The trouble is it doesn't taste the same does it?

What about during a power cut or at a picnic or camping, etc.
I think ring pulls are an excellent idea, most tins in Portugal have had them for years, tinned toms, beans, peas, soups, you name it.
Wasn't it sliced corned beef, out of catering sized tins, that caused the outbreaks of Botulism a few years back?
Oh dear, here we go with that B word again.

If you are talking about the major outbreak in the 50's that was caused by the Argentinians washing the tins with river water before filling them and yes I think it was the large catering tins.
Have you ever heard of battery power?

VM ,thats the method I use still doesn't work, but I have no problem with any other ring pull.
I have to admit that ring pull cans are convenient, though I have to admit due to fact that both my wife and myself suffer from arthritis in the hands I am thinking of buying one of these.

My answer to Ring Pulls.
After almost losing finger nails in the past. I slip a spoon through the ring and this gives a great grip for pulling.

Phil, I was thinking far more recently. I think It was tins that had been punctured during delivery and storage.
Battery power eh! Are you trying to attract strange ad's?
