So at least you agree so far. My mate John at work was talking about it and I couldn't place it. I do know most pubs in town. (or so I thought ).

I have never heard of the Sputnik but I promised John The BT Investigation Team would find it.?

The pub at the top of Temple street was the Nelson.

Have looked in McKenna's book. It just says:
Red, formerley the Plantation, formerly the Sputnik is a somewhat nondescript public house at the top of Temple St. From this I gather it was not a pub before it had these names. In fact this is not surprising as it is in the basement of a fairly modern building.

SB, the Sputnik may have been called "Plantation" as per Mikejees information, or could have been called "Planters Bar" as per this discussion... http://www.birminghamroundabout.co.uk/20...n-introduction/
