John

Is this an example of vitrolite, it was on Monument Rd and I remember working at the rear of these premises in the 80's I think it was and the shop frontage was still the same. Vitrolite has the process of manufacturing got anything to do with acid i.e. Vitriol (sulfuric acid)

Lovely art deco frontage Phil.
Yes the black is definately vitrolite.
I like the sign in the window, cars AUSTIN vans.
The shop next door is glass signwritten in reverse, we used to do loads of these for CO-OP and GEORGE MASON

John

As far as I am aware it from Lancaster Circus to Bull St the one way and from New Street to Bull St the other way. As you can see from your photo the traffic is just before Bull St. This old map shows the traffic flow. The black arrows show the direction of the traffic.

John

Nice bit of signwriting, why does it show up with a white background when it is enlarged?

Phil this end of Corporation Street is like this now. This is the bottom end where C&A used to be.
You can see the Tower at the Fire Station end on the right in the distance. I know when I used to catch my bus outside Rackhams in the middle sixties The 17 went up Corporation Street left into Bull Street then Left into Colmore Row then through Victoria Square past Lyons and Galloways then back down New Street Right into Stephensons Place etc. Now again at the moment it's one way coming down to New Street. Untill next year when only the Trams will be allowed to use Corporation Street. SB

I think that the Trams down Bull street and corporation Street, will be a mistake, there are too many Streets shut in Brum as it is.SB

I just want to go and exile myself on the Isle of Wight. If this was possible I would never come back.

What a good idea, I wouldn't have to pay rent or obey the laws of the land then would I.
