This is the start of the God awful monster of a Library set to dwarf Baskerville House and the repertory Theatre.

I could never work out why Baskerville House couldn't have been used with a sympathetic extension of course. Its a pretty big place inside I used to go there regularly to the planning department. It would have been much better and cheaper of course.

Phil there was a plan some years ago to make Baskerville House into a five star hotel. It would have been a perfect transformation. What a waste of an opportunity.

I agree Frothy, Brindley Place is the best part of the city nowadays, pity about the crappy costa coffee hut in the first photo,
Unfortunatly most of the buildings are inhabited by the banking fraternity and finance related add-ons.

I also agree, most of the Brindley place area is a masterpiece. Most of of the area does fit together nicely and links very well with the ICC.
Most of the Mailbox area was a nice place to be. That was in my humble opinion before they started to build The Cube. ( appropriately named as that is all it is ).

Good morning John I was just following your last piece.
As a designer John. Can you answer a question for me please.
As more and more people are into designing and thousands of people are working their way through Art and Design Schools. Also more and more money goes into building and production. Why are we faced every day with more and more BLAND CRAP. SB

Not really John, when I am out and about in town I take pictures of anything and everything, As you know digital makes this affordable. From time to time especially of forums this proves useful. SB

We have the same thing in Brum John. There are five Hotels going up that I know of. Two Travelodges, two Holiday Inns and a Hotel La Tour. SB

SB, I put it down to people trying to be too clever, and coming up with buildings totally unfit for the purpose they were intended for.
We have just had a design turned down here (thankfully) that looked like a pile of squashed drinks cans by a world famous architect, I'll post a pic when I can find it,half the time I think designers get their inspiration from rubbish bins.
