The ceremony was very well produced and spectacular. I did like the bicycle-butterflies. But I am not sure whether many non-british people would have known what on earth was going on for a large aprt of the time. I have thought of a new green way we might generate electricity, if the energy of waving arms whenever the camera view touches on a group of people could be harnessed in some way.

I wouldn't normally watch olympic crap and all I remember from past events is a boring procession of billions of athletes slouching around a track.
I watched it last night and I thought it spectacular to say the least.

Another fine day Do you think Paul McCartney should call it a day
his singing was awful at the opening of the games

I didn't watch because I object strongly to a waste of what is rumoured might reach an amount of £24 billion at a time when we are being asked to accept cuts and our pensioner and disabled are having to pay for these games for the enjoyment of the privileged few that can afford tickets.

I think it's Paul McCartney's business whether or not he retires, I just don't understand why people invite him to such high profile events.
Being a legend is simply not enough.

No problem with that Phil, but negative comments on something you don't watch isn't right either

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

i agree phil...the opening cermemony lasted a few hours and no doubt made those who watched it puff out their chests and feel proud to be british (something i would rather do on st georges day or when we remember our war dead) and when its all over will it really help those who are stuggling to find work when this countrys unemployement is at an all time low??? no chance...only those who have family trying to find work will understand how i feel about this and how demoralising they feel when they get kicked in the teeth time after time when applying for work so i know what im talking about..

You will note I haven't made a negative comment on something I haven't watched but I was commenting on the whole idea. There again once again we have the London factor entering the equation. How can something end up at a suspected 10 x the amount of the estimate of five years ago. Have we learnt nothing from examples such as the Millennium Dome and Wembley Stadium? Just a thought but do you think it would have run that much over budget if it had been built north of Watford where the work was needed?
