Your wood article is very interesting. In connection with this I would add a snippet on plastic boards. Some time ago boards and other kitchen implements were being sold which were supposed to incorporate a disinfectant into the structure of the board, so it could not be washed out. A colleague where i worked did some work on them. I was told that testing gave no significant results between the treated implements and the equivalent plain plastic ones. As far as i know this was never published (though i may be wrong in that). Soon after the products seemed to disappear off the market.

Well I enjoyed Denise's article concerning wooden cutting preparation and surfaces, and Lyn we don't eat off butchers blocks do we? food is always cooked after being prepared on them, I would be interested in our resident food chemists opinion on this matter.
Still it won't make any difference to me, as we are out to lunch again today, but it's my favourite this time a carvery. There is nothing wrong with simple plain English food.
I'm not a microbiologist, but , following the artcle Denise quoted, I would think that it was likely that the same would apply to wooden plates that are used to eat off, especially if they were put through a dishwasher with an appropriate detergent . That said, I would think the boards would tend to get a bit scruffy after a while, and soon not exactly look their best.

I must say I prefer food on a plate. My worktops are made of wood and I remember saying to a friend I was not sure about how hygienic they were but she said they were better than plastic re hygeine. Now I know why LOL.
Going back in time we know that wood was used for food as servers.I use my wooden spoons all the time for food preparation as to my mind they are the best.
Your note on plastic is interesting Mike.

Good afternoon Lyn, I am reclined at the moment watching six Nations rugby. So stressful.
