Who has memories of old Birmingham Business that are no longer trading?

Davenports

Davenports was in the past one of three large brewery firms based in Birmingham they started brewing their kind of beer in 1829 Davenports brewed from property built in 1815 on the corner of Bath Row and Granville St the original company ceased production from here in 1986. It was renamed Highgate and davenport brewery and despite renewed operations and a new frontage it still didn't work subsequently the place was demolished and the site is now occupied by Tesco and apartments

I will say Davenports Drum bitter and Continental Lager were both very good.

When I was a kid I used to look into their bottling plant through the window on Bath Row.

Yes that was always worth a look.

The Austin Longbridge I knew a few people who worked there but it was a long way from Shard End. I should imagine a lot of people on this forum have tales to tell

Lucas Industries plc was a famous British manufacturer of components for the motor industry and aerospace industry. Founded in 1860 It was based in Birmingham. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. In August 1996, Lucas merged with the American Varity Corporation to form LucasVarity plc.

The Lucas trademark is currently owned by TRW Automotive and is licensed to Elta Lighting for aftermarket auto parts in the United Kingdom.

Lucas was a massive business in Brum how many factories were there? I know of Shaftmoor Lane and the City Centre ones.
