In my view Birds Custard is certainly (in my humble opinion) not as dark as it used to be. I wonder though if this is a change in the permitted colorings used. maybe the lead paint has been changed.

I had the same thought as you SB. It very likely might not be that the color previously used was banned, but that the company decided to give itself a better image, in the media at least, by using a "natural" colour. Don't have a tin at present, but next time I am in the supermarket I will look and see which is the colour now used.
