RE: Birmingham companies now gone - 2

I have not got this off Wikipedia,Does anybody remember the co-op bakery at Stechford or the co-op milk at Garrets Green and Vauxhall i worked at both the bread and milk depots great jobs in the day,don't know if they are still going. I wouldn't expect the bakery to still be going

I do remember the Coop Bakery at Stechford I also remember their little green vans which I think were called Morrison Electricar.
Also The Coop Dairy this was round the corner from where I live. The Dairy is still there by the way but its not coop anymore, The Milk trucks I see deliver in the mornings say Milk and more.

I used to know the chief engineer at the bakery. The site has long been a small trading estate.

Birds Custard was once one of Brums great companies. Does anyone think that Birds custard is as good as it used to be. I think it's paler and weaker.

Wasn't Velocette motor bikes at Hall Green ,think it was, Velocette Venom best bike I ever had.

Note that the company name was Veloce Ltd and Velocette was the name applied to all their bikes after their first. Their last factory was in York Road, Hall Green.

Sheldon Boy. I remember the Co-op dairy well. At weekends I used to help 'Jack the milkman' with his rounds in his little electric milk van.

Jack Hall was a great old guy, he was a Methodist Lay minister. He also used to pick up the odd lost school kid and take them into school. when he first came to our round in Sheldon it was a two man round with a big diesel l truck from Vauxhall dairy, when the Garretts Green dairy was built the round was split still into two large rounds. Not sure who you are though.
