Joe I would say most are replaceable but they are worth a good bit. The idea is to build up my stock and build my railway when I retire. By then I doubt if I will be able to afford it.

If you do a bit at a time you will afford it, it would be well worth your while so go for it, if it were me I would.

You will have something to be proud of when you're seeing the finished layout.

New range about to come out from Hornby… DCC with Twin Track Sound.
Only in the Railroad range so really cheap. Cheaper still at Amazon.

DCC would be good for the modernists. It's not for me though. I have started planning my model Railway now I have around 30 loco's around 20 coaches (some to be swapped) and around 40 - 50 goods wagons. Working points and signals to be worked on and I have a great deal of road vehicles. plenty of work for the winter months.

This is mallard an A4 pacific.
I picked it up for around £30 it would cost around £100 new, and it's in great condition.

You can still buy DCC loco's, even if you don't run a DCC layout.
They will work just as well on a non DCC system as any other loco.
The advantage of DCC is that the entire layout can be on one controller. I can run all my six loco's at the same time and control each one individually.
Points can also be controlled and the coach lights are on even when the train is stopped.

I know you are, imperial analogue rules.
But DCC loco's are also analogue when away from a digital controller.
