I'll go with that.Where is next for consideration i'm sure there are some contenders.

Margate.

I don't know Margate these days, the onlly time i ever went was when i was about six. mind you the pubs were probably quite good then.

I know my one trip to Southend on Mud was pretty Grim.

I thought in the 70's that Rhyl itself was pretty fair but then I would have to agree that if you got off the front and went into a pub they were a pretty ignorant lot. I know one night standing at a bar I got into a row because the gaffer was serving regulars over my head and ignoring me. He didn't like the stink I kicked up.

Whilst I don't do proper holidays in this country, more like long weekends away, I do rather fancy Yorkshire but have never been.
Bridlington maybe but definitely Scarborough, I want to go and stay in the big Victorian V shaped hotel that Michael Portillo went to on one of his railway trips.

Bridlington is great, Captain Morgans Restaurant, (if it's still there).
You must do Robin Hoods bay and Flamborough Head.
Another must is the Moors and the golf balls at Fylingdale.

Really sad to read about Rhyl gone downhill.

Not for me but for my mum,she loved the place in the old days but she likes weston now,stayed at weston a few years back,nice but I can't say I am that keen.

I love Dorset and Yorkshire.

I am not keen on most of the seaside towns that I visit. If it wasn't for the grandkids I would go anywhere near them.

Went from the age of 0, at least once per year until I was 17, Then not much until my late twenties whenI went at least four times a year working and started going for weekends away since then.
Overdue a visit now but I can't face the burnt out pier.

Well I've just got back from a 4/5 day trip around North Wales wherein we visited Rhyl to check it out for later in the year. I have to say that most of what has been said is true, the town is crumbling a bit around the edges but the town centre still seems fine.

I think from a kids point of view it will be fine, they still have a small fair and amusement arcades with plenty of rock & ice cream shops. Nearby is Conway with its castle and there is always Chester Zoo within striking distance. So I think it will be fine.

Yes I had a good time, well as good a time as one can have being watched by a wife who has taken a part time job as a Doctor's nark. "Don't drink that or I'll tell the doctor, don't eat that because it's bad for you, don't loose your temper with that waiter because it's bad for your BP". Holiday breaks are just no fun any more, I'm thinking of giving them up, I can stay at home and be nagged and it's cheaper.
