I am if nothing else adaptable, if the majority want the personal announcement thread to be inviolate then that is OK with me as long as it is used just for that purpose and not for the making of posts and statements that the poster doesn't want disagreed with.

That's what I thought this place was for Astoness, enjoying and sharing what we have, in the time we have.

I would have thought, no, I know, that an intelligent person would instinctively know if their view will add to the value of a thread or detract from it.
If detracting from other peoples threads is the name of the game then why are we here? The only people enjoying themselves are the detractors.

Then I am fine with that, as long as the personal announcement is not filled with a never ending diatribe on the graciousness and goodness of the person the announcement is about which cannot be disagreed with.

Things can be disagreed with, in another thread started for that purpose. We did it with Baroness Thatcher, eventually, so we know it works.
And there will always be this thread.
