Closing 100 stores and losing 872 staff must feel like a great step forward for them.

They do have a lot of shops. It is probably better to cut some now than wait until things are so bad they have to close them all.
(Woolworths, BHS, Maplin, Toys 'R' Us, Austin Reed, Comet, HMV, et al.)
I usually buy online so I won't miss the shops at all except when on holiday.
That's progress for you.

House of Fraser to close stores including their Oxford Street flagship store. Birmingham is also on the list, but it looks like Solihull will be OK!

Damn shame. Rackhams has always been good for the toilets, and their cafe does a good roast dinner. I will miss both amenities.
