elf un safty comes into the equation once again. What about the old gas mantles, they were a nightmare to change, we didn't get electricity until about 1946-7

I remember them fitting electricity in to our house in Francis St. One light socket in the one bedroom upstairs one light socket in the only room downstairs and one plug socket. Consequently the two light sockets were soon fitted with those two way adaptors.
I bet you used to run a radio off the light socket extension with twisty frayed wire. Then listen to Journey into space and Dick Barton Special agent with Snowy. Archie Andrews was always a hit.

Thats a novel idea hanging decorations in the bog. We just took a copy of the Dispatch with us and a candle to read it with. See no flies on us dual purpose.

I did even the words printed at the bottom of each drawing, not just the speech balloons. That's how I learnt to read comics and the back of the corn flakes box. When we had toast for breakfast I didn't get a reading lesson that day.
I used to be reading mad when I was a kid and the Cornflakes, Weetabix and Ready Brek boxes were very well read. Vitamin B12, Riboflavin, Thiamin and the rest.
If I drank less I would have more money left over for buying wine.
