SB

Wouldn't know about that one we never had any carpet in our house until I was about 16. We made do with lino & rugs. Bare boards were the order of the day in the bedroom and army & BR overcoats on the bed.

I remember Reckitts blue.
Who remembers Camp coffee and chicory essence,Kaolin poultice for boils, cod liver oil and malt in a big brown jar (scrumptious),and I mean it.
Smiths broken crisps, and bags of broken biscuits, tiger nuts, palm toffee, pigs trotters, scratchings from the fish shop, ice cream in cardboard tubs
with the lid for a spoon, I could go on forever.

John

I have tried most of those except the pigs trotters, and leave the poor tigers alone what did they ever do to you. I loved Palm toffee with the yellow streak running through it. 3d a bar.

I suppose you got your trotters from Great Lister St, as the same place I collected my moms faggots from another nightmare they were.

Tubs were about the only way you could buy ice cream back then from the local shop, it was either that or a bock that you made into ice cream sandwiches with wafers or you had to fit it in to those square cones.

A block of ice cream and a bottle of Tizer was all you needed on a hot sunny day. They were something we seemed to get a lot more of back then.

I knew you came from royalty, golden syrup and cornflakes indeed. It was dripping ant toast in our house if we were lucky, and when the dripping ran out it was lard.

O'Yea poor serf. Better yet. If one goes to a reputable supermarket and sidles up to the cereal isle. One will find a nice box of Golden Grahams and rather superb they are too. SB

I remember my grandmother a true Scot. She used to dish up Scott's Porridge Oats for breakfast every morning. As for asking for anything to sweeten it with all you would be offered was salt. Needless to say we preferred toast.
