Right here's the first recipe from the book WE'LL EAT AGAIN by MARGUERITE PATTEN, in ASSOCIATION with the IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM.
I haven't tried this one yet, but it sounds good.
I have to ask...Was booze on ration?
Anyone informed that the universe is expanding and contracting in pulsations of eighty billion years has a right to ask, “What’s in it for me?”
Peter De Vries (b. 1910)
I would imagine if beer wasn't on ration in the war, that Sugar, cereals etc certainly would have been. Most of the customers would have been away in the forces anyway.

Apparently beer wasn't on ration during the war years though prices were inflated by higher duty and it was watered down to make it less potent.
Make Love, Not War
Not from the book, but one of my own, made about 15 minutes ago, just had a sprinkle of cheese on the mash and going in the oven for 10 minutes.
The pan size is 15" x 10" and I will get 6 meals from that when put with additional vegetables such as sprouts, cauliflower, swede, cabbage,
etc.I don't usually have gravy with it.
The ingredients are as follows, 1lb minced steak, or cheaper beef mince, mixed veg, I use the frozen bags, 1 tin of mixed beans or chick peas,
2 oxo cubes salt and pepper, dash of worcester sauce, cook all the ingredients in the pan,(do not use fat) instead add a cup of water,
prepare your mash as usual, then spread over top of meat mix, I always add a dash of colmans mustard to the mash, sprinkle cheese over top and put in oven 10-20 minutes, (the cheese is optional, then serve with fresh vegetables of your choice and gravy if you are not having the cheese topping. enjoy.
