You can order copies of Birth, marriage and death certificates from the local register office now covering the registration district where the event was originally recorded. The local register offices have their own indexes and systems which are different to the General registrar’s indexes so the index reference although it may be helpful additional family information will need to be provided to ensure that the correct certificate is being issued.
