There was I understand, a bar at the top of Temple Street in Brum,
Called The Sputnik. Does anyone remember what it was called before that please. SB

hi SB..i think you could be referring to what was once called the trocadero...probably the first gay pub in birmingham...before that it was called the bodega...in 1895 the manager of the bodega was shot and killed and it is reputed to be haunted....hope ive got the right pub SB otherwise ive just given you a load of usless info lol...

I don't know about the sputnik, but but I think the Trocadero has always been that for the time we have been around, and according to Street view ( http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Temple+S...=12,315.25,,0,0 ) , still is.

Thanks Mike, But it's not The Troc, Shakespear or Temple Bar.
The Sputnik was Apparently at the top of Temple Street.

Hi everybody
I'm back, I don't know I go away for a couple of days and I come back to a disorganised rabble, I'll just go and sort out the photo competition then I'll go and have a coffee and then come back.

Right can I just remind everyone on this forum of a couple of points. The first one being can we all be respectful of each other, we are only small in numbers so it shouldn't be that hard to get along with each other. We have not got a bad crew here, so lets just try to enjoy each others company.
Another point this is a family forum, and we do have a junior member so can we keep the jokes to a standard that you wouldn't mind your 11 year old daughter or son reading. Also that could I remind you that swear words are against forum rules even with asterisk's substituted for letters.
I know I have been guilty of this myself on the rare occasion, but there are certain politicians that just make me loose it, but I promise I will watch what I write in future.

Dick Lawn the licensee of The Tavern In The Town moved to the Temple Bar after the bombing. We had some happy hours in there for a few years. Now the place is a shoe shop. Shame.

Same here Lyn. Had some really happy times there. The place is a Halal Chinese restaurant now and that word Halal really makes me angry
