Here we go again.
I have only one question to ask. Why do we need all the publicity? Do they think the people it concerns most "The people of Birmingham" don't know its being built. Oh sorry there is another question. Why does Birmingham have its own publicity department if anything of importance is contracted out?

Personally, with the present cuts, i would put all the staff of publicity departments on the dole.
With regard to your comments about TV. I do watch a fair bit of TV. i would be horrified if they restricted the hours, not because I want to watch it all the time, but because the 4 hours would end up one of two ways:
1 As pre- 1958 or so, full mainly with operas, ballet, politicians spouting rubbish
or
2. Full of "Coronation St", "X-factor"," Britain has Prattish people" (that is the title isn't it?), "My husband is a weirwolf" or similar shows.
either way there would never be anything on worth watching, whereas now you can filter out the crap with a long sieve ans watch any of the rest you want to

As I have never seen why a Council has to publicise itself or any of its projects I completely agree with your comments about sacking the lot. As far as I can see they are a waste of public money, but I don't think its going to happen. How else will Whitby get his face in the paper other than for his alleged fiddles & scams.
As for television it has its good points, the kiddies programmes keep the children amused (and some of the adults). They show the occasional interesting documentary and entertaining film, but any more than that is rubbish all the so called reality TV, soaps and talent shows need dropping now!
