plenty of joy with some great photos volty..gut feeling tells me i have one of the malt shovel dated 1958 it was not a pub then as you know...i have joined forces with mike and asked for his help to try and confirm or not as the case maybe so a bit of research is needed..will post the photos tomorrow...
oh one of the photos is a corner shot looking up smith st and well st and would you believe it...there is my grandparents little shop they ran in well st 1930s....you just never know when they are going to turn up..im chuffed
A very productive visit all round. I came across mentions of Well Street in that link you posted on the St Georges Church thread. There was a possible link to my family that I thought worth checking out. Not so much from the christian names but because of the proximity to Smith Street.
i was so lucky to get this one...smith st to the left well st running down...my grandparents shop that they ran in the early 1930s in well st is just to the right of the hand cart...look closely at the right of the pic half way up you can just see a black cross on white background...that would be the frontage of the woodman pub corner of barr st/well st...no longer a pub recently been turned into offices and flatlets..
