Thats very true, but wouldn't they have been smaller and much more unobtrusive. Didn't watch repairers put them on the inside of the case. I know on my Waltham pocket watch there are a few inside the case.
On my wanderings through the Bull Ring on my way to work, I usually have a look at the Antique Fair when I come across it. As I have posted before I collect old tools. This is something I have never seen before a Hand Rebate Plane this is used in much the same way as a Spokeshave. This interesting little item cost £5.00 not a bad price considering it is still a functioning piece of equipment. It's got a cast iron body, Brass fittings, and wooden handles (not plastic) looked after it will still be usable when I am long gone.

SB, Worth £20 of anyones money, the trouble with these things now is that not many people know how to use them. Sharpen that blade, bit of oil on the thread, and a wipe over the wood with linseed, as good as new.
