Some people have trouble mimicking it. Personally I don't think I would have much trouble

I think that one hundred years ago the Brummie accent would have sounded quite different to our current version. The report refers to Small Heath having a slightly Scouse sound. This may be due to areas of Birmingham being more like villages, with distinct borders and traditional populations.
Over building and over populating has homogenised the city and local variations have been trampled on.
I know I can't do a Brummie accent.

Living over here in Maryland (USA) it's amazing how many people think I'm a 'scouser' (REALLY!), but those are the ones who don't think I'm from Australia. Although I have lost a lot of my accent, it still comes back if I visit Birmingham (Thank Heaven!)
