It sounds like, looking for a needle in a haystack, don't think they will ever find it personally.

There would still be wreckage on the surface

Apparently it had the capability of reaching Pakistan. Now there's a place to keep 200 odd hostages.

Me being a bit of a sceptic at the best of times - things to note that have been said - Thai military said it did NOT enter their air space, Australia tracking on our west coast in general does not track west as most illegal activity tends to come from our north, this could be why the oz and us are looking to our west in the zone just outside our normal coastal surveillance systems. you may consider that other countries may well have not seen the aircraft but don't wish to say - as they don't wish other countries to know their technical capabilities. there is one place that I am positive does know. and that is the tracking station Alice Springs in central Australia known as pine gap. every US satellite that can be "seen"" by that tracking centre and I'm sure other countries satellites are monitered here. it is the listening post of this part of the world, whilst it is in Australia it is run by the yanks and although they are supposed to share the intelligence with OZ its been clear in the past they don't share it all (intelligence and america??? oximoron) my point is this station watches everything emails, phone calls everything, whilst they might not see it yet, I bet their computers are searching through the maze of titbits to find the info, this station is run by the CIA and NSA and is part of the global surveillance network know as Echellon. I travel a lot, i know there is always someone on every flight who has not turned off a mobile phone or some network connected device. one of those devices must have been pinned by a satelitte. so stands to reason in the pile of date is a clue.

ref : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Gap ref; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON

as echelon is set to monitor key words like cia, tracking, echelon , surveillance we should say good morning to the monitoring team - morning yank

Nice touch there TCA.

The reason why I can't believe the plane is intact and in captivity somewhere is the plethora of mobile devices that would be on board.

yes I'm with you on that, the fact that the aircraft had been pinged at least 6 times after the comms systems were turned off, according to our media the satellites ping the plane "are you there" - plane "yes" even with transponders off. something the world wasn't told at the start. we have a very good OHR system in theory the over the horizon radar should pick up the low level traffic - my understanding it to track low flying missiles, so if it was headed down our western corridor you would think it should have been "seen". i think the fact that the pine gap station was able to pin point the position is testament to how good it is, news tonight is reporting that commerical satellites are being refocussed onto the search area. even so it's very deep out there. The main theory here is that there was an air/oxygen drop and that everyone fell asleep, and it flew till it ran out of fuel. The changes to direction can be attributed to the aircraft trying to maintain a level attitude.

The mobile devices could have been gathered up and disabled.
