Is it a shame or not for all these people that have suffered the effects of flooding. When I was buying a house that was one of the first things I looked into, is it on a flood plain. Surely these people must have know that they are buying into a flood plain and the risks that come with it. Don't get me wrong I do feel sorry for them. Through rose tinted glasses The £ sighs and location all else has been erased.
Shard End Idiot
You are right Dennis, but also a partial cause are estate agents with no morals, who care nothing for the truth and are only interested in their own commission and solicitors who likewise are only interested in their fee and often give the work of checking out the background of the property to low-paid unqualified minions (or perhaps even unpaid minions persuaded to work for nothing in the hope of a later job).

Interesting.
As some of you know, we live in a flat at the moment but have just bought a house bang in the middle of a high risk flood area. Knowingly. We've done it because even though its only 100 yards from the River Rea, we know the house has never flooded (although some in nearby streets have), and over the last few years flood protection schemes have made a big difference. Even so, Ive dome a lot of research, and I'm going to buy some flat pack no sand sand bags which inflate when subjected to water, and also apply a strong sealant to the base of the house as well as non return drains
Its what I would expect from people who knowingly live on a flood plain, but in fact many people just seem to rely on the environmental services to supply them with sandbags etc. I do feel for them, but maybe some of them should make more effort to prepare?

Quite right Mitz.
A lot of People expect to be carried by the public purse and protected from their own ignorance.
Every year we see riverside flooding in surrounding towns on local TV, some of the people interviewed think it is my fault that they are flooded, others think it is the natural price for living in a beautiful riverside location.
I would much rather help the ones who accept nature and do their best to protect themselves.

Quite right.
It's a little like people who move to houses near Birmingham Airport and then complain about the noise :-)

Or people who convert an old pub/cafe/house into a Mosque and then complain about the bells in the Church next door.
