it was suggested that I might post a note here on the off chance that one of you may come accross info that might help me, so i will add what I know, any ideas you might have I would love to hear
my father arthur cooke,,b 1909 106 aston church rd
grand mother Clarrah Holland born dec 1887 at Marquis of Lorne, Newtown Row, bham (is this a pub? ) her mother Clarat jefferies b 1860 bham , father Hurbert holland born 1861 cheshire
marrage between clarrah and arthur 1908 parish church st james aston park shows arthur as a butcher
grand father arthur cooke b 1887
great gfather b about 1838 broadway. worcester g gmother Alice Dorrill b abt 1859

g.g.gfather thomas cooke b 1809

my grandmother, my father and I lived at 22 gem st bham 4 - my mother had died before I reached the age of 5 - so I was sent to live in oxford to go to school

any help on any of these would be great , thanks

hi tca...not quite sure what other info you are after as you seem to have it all but i can help you with a photo of where your mom was born and yes it was a pub let me know if you would like me to post a pic of it for you....the marquis of lorne was on the corner of cecil st and newtown row now demolished..

The Hollands are not listed as the landlord of the Marquess of Lorne in the 1888 Kellys , though it is just described as a beer retailer, and not named. This does not mean that they were not landlords immediately before or after the date of the survey for Kellys though. I do not have the Kellys for the year immediately before or after 1888 to check.

tca just to pick up on mikes last post....my dad was born in a pub in summer lane but his parents were not the landlords..they were just living there with his moms parents who ran the pub and so had a different surname...

I suggested tca should post what he knows here in the hope that you guys might be able to fill in any gaps and pad out what he already has with some addresses, offspring, etc. I shall try a bit of research myself but I don't have the resources that some of you have.

thanks for your interest, i have all the usual access, ancestry, family search, I was just hoping that you may come accross the cooke name in your general bham stuff, apparently the family was well known, anyway if it pops up somewhere, i will keep looking, thanks again tca
