Oh Lyn these are brilliant. The centre picture shows my aunts house which is opposite the gate to the Aston signal box where my cousin worked xx

My aunts house is next to the yard gates. It was a coal yard and we used to sneak in a pinch a few lumps when the old gal wasnt looking. Xxx

Yes Lyn the big double gates are the coal yard. Looking at the pics my aunts house was on the right. In pic 2 there is a gate railway side and this was the signal mans entrance gate. One of the signal men used the embankment as his allotment and grew all sorts of veg. Hence the need for a padlocked gate.

No lyn only my pride was hurt really,we use to live in a place called the grove of villa road it was directly opposite terrace road .the ground belonged to rose hill road school .After so many years they had it back so its gone now,we moved from there to barker street before this happened.

hi jo what years were you in barker st...its still there and our dad lived at no 21 i think it was in his teens...i lived in villa street from 58 to 72

hi lyn ,we were in barker street early 60s ,I think it was number 64 half way down on the right going from villa cross end. I got married from there in 66 and moved to a flat in soho road.It only lasted 12 years,remarried 82 still going strong,now in telford.

sorry jo i cant recall the bonfires and fairs at handsworth park....we always a massive fire in our back garden and half the kids in the street came to it....

We had our bonfires on the bomb peck off Long Acre/Walter street when I was little, then when my nan moved to Nechells Park road we used to use her garden as it was bigger than ours

Does anyone remember street partys for coronation day tables down the middle of the street. I can just about remember a street party for V E day,i was nearly six,a very long time ago.I also remember queing for ration books with my mom at grove lane school,handsworth
