Please do not think that i am being racist with my next comment but if Birmingham council was not run by the asian community we would not be having this conversation. Most councillors are from asian background so I suppose it is to be expected that this would happen.

The lift incident is interesting. The large useless Spinnaker tower erected in Southsea a few tears ago as an ego-project also had similar initial problems with its outside glass lift. In the end they gave up. Hope the same does not occur here. It does raise the question , though, as to whether all lift manufacturers are completely incompetent (I won't say British lift manufacturers, as I don't think there are any of these any more )

I don't know if what you say is correct (nor living in Birmingham myself), but if that is so, then it is the fault of non-asians not being prepared to do anything , or to vote in those who can do something

hi folks...well i come back from me jollys and what do i find and i hate to say i told you so...lifts and excalators already breaking down and drinks given out for the inconvenience..something i did expect to happen but not quite so soon in a building that has cost so much money to build...no point folk coming on and saying its only teething problems..all i can say is they are dam expensive ones... [Frowning]

I would not have chosen that design, certainly not the external design, but there does need to be a central library. The "questioner " in the piece, however is from Brent and is complaining about her local libraries. I was not aware that Birmingham , or the immediate area had somewhere called Brent. London chooses to spend its money on supporting a vast transport system and giving subsidies to its inhabitants so that pensioners can travel free on the underground and rail networks over a vast area. This is not so in Birmingham, who choose to spend their money how the local council wishes. Of course, whether this is the same as what would be chosen by Birmingham's inhabitants is a different matter, but is bugger all to do with people in Brent

Quite right mike but as it happens the good people of Birmingham have as much of a say in how the Council spends its money as the good people of Brent would have in how Birmingham Council spends its money.
