I think anything is better than demolition, but surely there are enough pubs and eating places along Broad Street. How about housing the Central Library local studies department there. I think it would be an ideal use for this old building.
What about a Post Office, with al the hotels it could be a very useful site.

The central post office is just around the corner, why give visitors a post office on their doorstep when Birmingham pensioners have to walk miles when all their local post offices have been closed down?
The trouble is none of these suggestions (except for a pub) will bring money in for the council to waste, so they won't happen

How about a Police station, most of the night time Police activity is centered around there.
How about a bank (oh sorry you want it to make money).

The trouble with a police station is that they are now selling them off, for the same reason it would not be any use as a fire station, or medical centre. The ideal place would be a private club and restaurant for exclusive use by our hard done by local politicians and councillors.
just think it could be decked out with all the photos and history you guys have collected, we can always have an exclusive brummies only bar - thats born and bred brummies

what a lovely building, yes i do remember it. a club for born and bred brummies, well that leaves me out as i was born in chester, with family links to shrewsbury and mid wales. chester and shrewsbury just do not destroy their old buildings, could you imagine bulldozing the rows in chester or taking away the fish steps in shrewsbury.

Lets see what we are talking about, myself I think that a crime was perpetrated when they demolished the Masonic Lodge next door. I can remember once having to go to the Municipal Bank as a child with my grandmother, even then I thought what a wonderful building it was. I think I thought it was some sort of a palace and not a gathering place for shysters and sharks.
