I remember with affection going to the Sheldon cinema in the 60s/70s. Also, the Adelphi at Hay Mills. There was something about that entrance with the ticket machine and kiosk selling sweets and Kia-ora drinks. In my opinion, so much better than the vastness of the multiplex cinemas today. It's almost imaginable now to think you could "light up" whilst watching a film and what about the ice-cream girl? I recall going to see 'A Hard Day's Night' at the Sheldon and you couldn't hear a thing for the screaming!!
Looking at the billboard on the Sheldon photo, I think it's about 1965 as the film is '[[File:Sheldon Cinema.jpg|none|auto]]Bunny Lake is Missing'.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Remember going to see The Graduate at The Sheldon, first time I heard that great music and have been a fan of Dustin Hoffman for years.
I think the only cinema I ever used along the whole length of Coventry Rd was the Kingston and I can't remember what the film was now. I do remember travelling all the way to the Olton on Warwick Rd as a spotty 15 year old to see Fanny Hill because it was banned in Birmingham what a load of rubbish that was.
What happened to the photo?
Jingle Jack, if you are having trouble uploading photo's it may be due to the file size or perhaps the format.
It could also be due to the source of the file.
The file must reside on your own PC, be less than 4Mb and be in a standard format such as JPG.
After choosing the required photo as an attachment, you also have to click on the "Upload" button and wait for it to complete before submitting your post.
If you have any more trouble, please contact me using the Private Mail facility and I will try and help.
I can also give you an email address to send the photo to and I will attempt to insert it into your post.

Sorry SB I haven't got a photo of you at the Tivoli on a Saturday afternoon, but I've got one of the Tivoli though.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
