I see some clever arse in the Government wants to do away with short prison sentences. ie: anything up to six months. This apparently will free up around 6000 jail places. The thinking is that short sentences do not rehabilitate people anyway and that they are a waste of time. What about the punishment aspect of these sentences, if someone breaks into my house and they get caught, I want to know that they have gone to jail, even if it's only for four months or so. That should be long enough to get a bloody good kicking in The Green.
Zero tolerance works as has been proven in New York by mayor Guilani when he clamped down on the minor offences it proved to make the City a safer place.
Unfortunately we have a stand for anything, get away with anything policy. I think we should have a capital punishment policy. Then when we have got rid of the politicians start on the next bunch of crooks.
