This has been due to politicians, slimy little worms that they are. Some encouraged these type of schools because they themselves were corrupt, some were persuaded by corrupt future-academy-executives, some wished to use their influence to promote their dubious theories of education, and some, either for themselves their friends, wished to use their influence to influence the children with dubious religious influences, Catholic, Jewish , Moslem, protestant or whatever. Few have been to the advantage of the pupils

When I was a School Governor our School was forced into becoming an Academy. As a Governing body we never had a say in it. Michael Gove was at the head of this Academy push at the time. Now 8 out of 10 Academies are in Deficit.
