Agreed SB. But presumably letters are delivered by people who know their area. It used to be like that in this country. If you look at the census, country villages often didn't have street names even up to 1900. Presumably the postman had to deliver to a large area , over a number of villages, and these would probably not have had names marked. In about 1860 even in towns a lot of the houses were not numbered, and so the same problem would arise.

I agree Mike but in those days I would think very few ordinary people received any post.

Have you thought about all the junk that our poor postmen have to deliver. I know the amount that comes through our door every day and I am disgusted at the amount of paper, resources and energy used to publish such rubbish. I think it should all be banned.

Trouble is Phil the profit they make from pushing through that rubbish probably is where a lot of their income comes from.

Mike
Isn't the post office always moaning that they are loosing money anyway. If this junk mail was stopped they would have a legitimate reason to cut back on staff and therefore if not make a profit then not loose so much.

Our Postman is very important.
Without him our front gate would probably stay closed for most of the day.
