Quite right that they should refund the morons that bought from them.

The branch managers who oversaw the exploitation of their mentally inefficient customers need a good financial kicking.

A lot of their customers can't help it. Faced with the demands of their families, Brighthouse is the only shop that would give them credit. Exploitation is the only word. When you borrow a large amount, the first thing you think is that you will pay it off quick, but of course you don't, then you enter the never ending spiral of debt. Having been in that position many many years ago I know how hard it is to get out of it. Some actually only get out of debt by committing suicide and it's not that rare.

good post sb and very true...having been one of those morons who bought from them it was as you say circumstances that lead to it...brighthouses took over crazy georges..

Being in serious debt is like being hooked on drugs, alcoholism and many other adictions. Most people who have never experienced it will never understand, It's like being in a jail with a life sentence. Actually years ago it was, people went to prison. for debts. Unless they paid their debts they never got out. They just lost everything including the family who were sent to a workhouse. It's a cruel world.

And now the crooks form a company which goes bankrupt after they have extracted the money, thus get off all their debts , start another crooked business and make more and more. If you are lucky you might be made a Lord or be invited to contribute to the conservative party. Then you can con even more money out of people

Rent to buy sounds the same as Hire Purchase to me.
I remember HP having a few rules, such as a fixed term and a fixed repayment total.
The buyer had a legal right to know the total extent of the debt, it wasn't an open ended loan which sharks like Brighthouse clearly prefer.

Loads of people just can't wait to save for the consumable items that they need. for example the washing machine breaking down. With three or for kids to feed and School uniforms to wash who can afford to wait to save £300-£400. With delivery, interest and fitting this could cost in excess of £750. Easy money. These customers are not morons, just desperate.
