Don't know if those on the forum will have seen (or might be affected by)the exact route . This links to (very detailed ) maps of the proposed route. The first map gives the overall route, and this is subdivided in to sectional maps, which show down to the individual potting shed (just about)

Mike
I think like most of us the only way this link will affect me is in the pocket by way of extra taxation. Myself I can't see the need for it, how can getting something moved around the country make it cheaper. In my opinion it can only make it more expensive because they are bound to charge more for freight and passengers. Its like the estimated cost of building it and providing it. Over the last few months I have watched it go from £17 billion to £33 billion and it now stands at £44 billion, it just has to be at £100 billion by the time they start work.
All that aside Mike it is a very good site for those people that it will affect, so thanks for pointing it out.

Considering the ever rising cost of Copper it may become unaffordable by the time it gets started.

Sorry about that Volty & SB, I thought you pair were joined at the hip anyway. Is it going to be Electric then this high speed link? The batteries won't last very long then will they?

Mike I have just been looking at the Chelmsley Wood section of your map posting. It makes you think of what has happened in the past. how many Villages, Towns, Houses, Farms, Markets etc have disappeared over time. Considering land acquisitions for Canals, Railways, Roads not to Mention Motorways and Harbours etc for coastal towns and Villages.

Yes, I see what you are getting at SB, but the towns, villages etc were themselves the cause of something disappearing when they were built. I seem to remember reading that , other than a few place like the tops of mountains, there is nowhere in the uk that has not been changed by man.

That's true Mike, things evolve and change everyday. What's wrong is the lack of respect and thought for the people affected. Take this rail link.
An awful lot of very intelligent people can't even see the need for it.

Come on people you can't argue against change or else we would all still be living in caves. However I do agree that a little more respect for the environment could be given and I don't mean change the route of a motorway or rail line because some chinless wonder sitting in his country pile doesn't want it passing by within a mile of his garden.

I would never argue against change Phil. But an awful lot of changes are made because they are business driven. Not because there is a desperate need for something. SB

I would argue against change. Especially when change is for it's own sake.
In the case of the HSR I think there should be a lot of business trickle down from it and ultimately it could end up going somewhere useful. So I'm not against it.
What concerns me is the travelling involved to get to one of it's stations, which by it's very nature will be few and far between. Add that to the normal train journey and there may not be a geat time saving if you only go to Londinium. The re-use of Curzon Street as a station could be exciting.
