Birmingham is going to be ordered to borrow £400 million to help pay off rent debts built up by Councils in London and Manchester.
Each year our housing department has to contribute £75 million to other towns who do not do such a good job as Birmingham in collecting our rents. We are only £682 million in debt (only?).
Well it seems not before time this system is going to be ended, but before it does we have got to make a one time payment of £396.4 million payment into a fund that will pay Manchester £273.6 million, the London Borough of Newham £552.6 million and the London Borough of Hackney £780.5 million.
So the next time somebody from either of those places starts going on about what a dump Brum is and how better their respective towns are just say to them “well it costs us too much to pay your rent, so we can’t afford to spend much on our own town”

Didn't you know that our Housing Department has been paying millions a year for years to subsidise councils that do a poor job of collecting rents. I ask myself why would they bother if their money is made up by the councils that do a better job. I didn't know that Walsall Council which has no social housing therefore it pays nothing. I suppose this is one of the reasons why Birmingham has made a concerted effort over the last few years to palm its housing stock off to housing associations.

On the TV the other night in some program following Birmingham Traffic Police about the course of their duty, we saw a bloke from london get pulled over for talking on his phone whilst attempting to drive.
He said we was squeaky clean legal and that Brummies were all simple minded criminals. Turned out the smug southern git didn't have motor insurance because he had no money and was a halfwit. He actually tried to get someone off the street, Bromsgrove Street to be precise, to buy it for him before his car was towed away.
I would question the legality of making BCC transfer money to other councils.

It's not just Birmingham, but any Council Housing Department that does a good job of collecting its rents and hasn't built up a huge debt. I really can't understand Birmingham housing because I would take a page out of other Council's books and do a poor job of collecting rents or sell off all the Council housing.
