There is an outbreak of E. Coli in the UK, thought to have started from imported bags of mixed salad leaves. How could anyone not wash such things? The bags of salad have obviously been handled by someone and you aren't going to cook them so washing them is vital. Washing everything from a supermarket is important. How many dirty people have picked up that orange or tomato or avocado before you bought it? And don't forget your own hands are filthy with bacteria after pushing that dirty trolley around. Just look at the people around you, would you eat out of their hands.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-36823404

Can never see why anyone would want to buy these (not that I'm much into salads). They are much more expensive, wilt quicker and , as has been pointed out, are more likely to be contaminated.
