That's because some boiled sweets get longitudinal crevices in them when sucked, where some of the sweet has dissolved faster than the rest. These crevices have knife edges to them and cut your tongue.
Found troach sweet's on amazon u k ,go to amazon's uk site ,put in confectionary ,it's amazing what they have got ,but I had to sort through it to find what I wanted.
