There are lots of different varieties of bananas out there, which the article admits in passing but plays down. They also admit , in passing that the earlier variety which died out due to fungus was tastier. I certainly seem to remember that , as a kid, the bananas had more taste, though that may be my imagination. I think it is also likely that it is not strictly correct to say that the ones we buy are the same as those in Chatsworth, as the article states that they are less sweet, denser and more like a plantain, so must have been altered by breeding to get the one we eat today. This breeding may have introduced the traits that cause it to be susceptible to the fungus

Bananas to me Mike always seem to be drier these day, Could this be due to the way that they are stored.?

I enjoy a banana ,but like a lot of fruit and veg ,it's been messed about by the boffin's to make it disease resistant ,and spoiled the taste in the process, nothing tastes the same today.
