Most of them are only coming to europe to grab benefits

I understand why they are coming, but it's going to help no one invading Europe.

We need to make it impossible to get benefits if you haven't been part of our system for most of your life.

I would agree with that as long as it included ex-pats who have gone to live abroad for years because it was warm and cheap (and usually fairly safe), but then when it gets a bit expensive or the locals con them out of their house, they want to come back here and expect all the benefits

There is a voluntary contribution scheme for National Insurance so that would have to be taken into account.

Also, some of the so called Ex Pats, a term I never agreed with as I thought the pat part referred to patriotism, are of pensionable age before they jump ship and therefore may have full entitlement no matter what.

Perhaps welfare should work like a PLC, we get shares in it, the more you put inthe more shares you get and benefits are paid out pro rata.
