There are so many languages these days, we are lucky MOST of the world understands English.

Brits living abroad are just as bad.
Not many bother to learn the language of their chosen country.
Partly due to the widespread use of English but mostly due to laziness.

Up to a point I agree but brits are generally lucky, many venture abroad on holiday but most of us couldn't learn the language of every country we visit.
Foreigners coming here on holiday are lucky. Most of our hotels are staffed by foreign nationals.
